Santa Cruz

We said farewell to summer at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. The hour and a half drive was a nice escape from the Bay Area fog as we were greeted with 75-degree weather and the warm sandy beach.

The boardwalk reminded me of a smaller Atlantic City, although the seagulls were nicer and less aggressive. Yes, the same amount of funnel cakes and ice cream vendors. It was very nostalgic of my childhood summers spent at the shore in Jersey (please refrain from sending me any Jersey Shore jokes).

Fresh Start

Since moving here, I have met so many kind and passionate new people who came to California for a fresh start. They were either leaving a toxic job environment, going through a bad breakup, or couldn’t stand to live at home anymore. A friend asked me why I moved, “What are you running from?” Not running, but chasing. I’m here to chase after new experiences. I want to take more jumps in my life and see where I land. I’m constantly terrified and excited about the changes and decisions that I come across every day, but it only makes life more thrilling. May we continue to focus on the people and moments that bring us joy, love, and laughter. Let’s teach each other how to live fearlessly.

Yosemite National Park

Last weekend, I traveled to Yosemite National Park with a few friends. It’s a long journey from San Francisco, but the drive is worth it. We hiked up the Upper Yosemite Fall Trail, which is 7 miles roundtrip. The strenuous hike included trickling waterfalls and a spectacular view. I would love to come back in the winter time to see the mountains covered with snow.

Joshua Tree

Located right in Southern California, Joshua Tree National Park is one of my favorite national parks. It has more than 750 species of plants blooming in the Mojave Desert, along with their wealth of trails for hiking, which Ben and I took advantage. We hiked up Ryan Mountain, a moderately easy 3-mile hike that brought us to a gorgeous sunset view.

San Diego

In early November, Ben and I traveled to San Diego. It was a belated birthday gift from him and a very special getaway for the both of us. After being 3 months apart, it was amazing to get some alone time with each other and explore somewhere new. Long distance isn’t easy, and I find myself missing him everyday.

We spent the majority of our vacation searching for the best California burritos and carne asada fries in San Diego. Part 2 of our trip is next. We visited Joshua Tree (Ben’s first time)!
